The formation of JB was the result of an initiative by Frito Lay, Inc. which sought to strengthen its minority business development programs. Frito Lay aggressively pursued increasing the dollars spent with minority-owned suppliers across a broad spectrum of products and services with the primary areas of procurement being for potatoes, corn, seasoning and packaging – their largest purchasing items.

When the initiative was launched, no minority suppliers existed that were capable of producing the types of flexible packaging required by Frito Lay. For this reason, Frito Lay encouraged the creation of an MBE supplier in the packaging business. Specifically, the idea was to create a joint venture with a minority entrepreneur and a large packaging company.

Robert L. Johnson was a successful business person who expressed interest in this entrepreneurial venture along with his daughter Rhonda Johnson. After a one-year venture with the Bagcraft Corporation of America, the joint venture with Bryce Corporation was established. The Johnson’s operated the business for over fifteen years.

On January 2, 2007, the Purifoy family acquired majority ownership of JB and Ron Purifoy assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer of the Company. Mr. Purifoy brings over ten years of experience from Georgia-Pacific and Consolidated Container Company, both global companies with headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. Mr. Purifoy holds a Bachelor of Science in business marketing from the University of Tennessee and a Master of Business Administration from Troy University.
